Preventative Care for Dogs

Wrentham Animal Hospital provides all the preventive care that your dog needs to live a longer, healthier and happier life. We recommend an annual wellness exam as a way to make sure your pet is healthy and to detect any underlying problems as early as possible. Our preventive care recommendations are specialized for your dog's age, medial history and lifestyle.

  • Annual physical examination where our veterinarians will examine your dog's mouth, eyes, ears, skin, heart, lungs, weight and musculature and abdomen. We will also take a thorough medical history, discuss nutrition, behavior and any medical concerns or recommendations

  • Vaccination recommendations are based on your dogs lifestyle and breed. Vaccines such as Rabies and Distemper are recommended for all dogs. Depending on your dogs lifestyle, vaccinations against Leptospirosis, Lyme, Bordetella and Influenza may also be recommended.

  • Parasite prevention is very important for dogs. We recommend monthly deworming against intestinal parasites as well as monthly flea and tick control. Heartworm medication to prevent heartworm disease (spread by mosquitos) is very important for your dog's health. At Wrentham Animal Hospital, we offer traditional monthly oral prevention, but also offer ProHeart which is an injection of continuous heartworm prevention which can last either 6 or 12 months.

  • Diagnostic testing includes heartworm and tick disease testing, fecal examination to check for intestinal parasites and full blood and urine diagnostic tests to detect underlying diseases.
